South-west of Norwich is a typical English village with a name that's derived from Bean Village, now known as Banham.
Banham is well known for having one of the largest wildlife attractions in the country. An award-winning wildlife park with over 2,000 animals from around the world set in 50 acres of beautiful parkland and gardens. More than just an attraction, Banham Park is a charity with primary aims to advance animal welfare, environmental protection and wildlife conservation.
As well as wildlife Banham offers a good community life. The Banham Community Centre organises many events and loves to welcome new people who have moved to the area. Banham also has its own Banham community group on Facebook; have a look and get involved with the locals before you relocate.
Banham offers regular village amenities, a church, a post office, an outstanding primary school and plenty of local shops, including a fantastic butcher shop. If it's afternoon tea and cake you're after then you're spoilt for choice. The same goes for pubs, there are plenty to choose from, one of the most popular being The Banham Barrel which holds regular music events.
Further local facilities can be found in the neighbouring Old Buckenham (2 miles) and Attleborough (5 miles) allowing immediate access to the A11 and rail services to both Cambridge and Norwich. The market town of Diss (7 miles) has a fast connection mainline rail link to London Liverpool Street. World-class state school Wymondham College is located 8 miles away with the fine city of Norwich being 18 miles away providing fantastic shopping including a thriving retail offering, businesses and cultural sectors.
Banham attracted Katharine and Louis Falconer from Sussex who wanted a better way of living and to get back to nature. They relocated, then re-homed five alpacas ( one called Iggy Pop! ) and progressed to starting an alpaca farm! Their whole move was followed by a Channel 5 film crew and made into a program hosted by Kate Humble "A country Life For Half The Price"
Katherine said moving to Banham was the right decision.
