Why does the number 13 make the superstitious worried?
The superstitious say that the number 13 is unlucky, they tell their children, their children tell their children and that's how the superstition lives on.
There are even superstitious people who cancel everything on the dreaded Friday the13th just in case something were to happen. They won't fly, they won't go to work and some people don't get out of bed for the whole day!
Some people have triskaidekaphobia, which is a fear of the number 13, that is anything associated with 13!
Someone with triskaidekaphobia wouldn't even view a house that is number 13 so that excludes them from being a potential buyer.
What about other people who are just slightly superstitious?
It does seem that people who are even the slightest superstitious would try to avoid buying a home with the number 13 on its door.
Research shows that odd door numbers strangely command more money than even door numbers but the one exception is door number 13. When it comes to number 13 there is a negative consequence on its value. However, if you look at it from a non-superstitious person they might consider it lucky because they get to buy a home for less money.
New home builders would prefer to not include a number 13 because they know how off-putting it is to many superstitious people. It's become such an issue that now some councils will consider proposals to exclude number 13 from new roads and streets. There are even some councils that are one step ahead and have banned the use of number 13 in new housing developments. Regretfully for some, trying to change the number 13 from your existing property is against the law.
Would you have any hesitations about buying a home with the number 13 on its door, or do you believe it all to be superstitious nonsense?
Do you live in a home with the number 13, has it been a lucky home number for you?
We would love to hear your thoughts.
